Early Childhood Executive Director 

Family Flex Early Education Center actively engages families as partners to nurture their children’s emotional, physical and cognitive development. Our exceptional educators provide high-quality play- based curricula and programs in a developmentally appropriate environment. Since 2005, Family Flex has met the needs of busy families in downtown Denver. Located within walking distance of the Denver Public Library and Denver Art Museum, the school occupies 9,500 square feet. Family Flex has capacity for 99 children (infants through preschool and school-age during days off) and operates with up to 25 full-time equivalent staff members. Family Flex is a nonprofit education center that has an operation budget of $1.5M annually.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Executive Director (ED) is responsible for ensuring the viable operation of the school, maintaining and maximizing retention of well-qualified teachers, maximizing enrollment, ensuring children are prepared for kindergarten and minimizing risk to the children and the organization. This position reports to the Board of Directors for Family Flex. Financially the ED is responsible for maintaining all financial records of the school, including but not limited to, overseeing billing, bill-paying, payroll processes, and fundraising. Overall, the ED leads the organization and is responsible for appropriate decision-making. Duties encompass on-going core responsibilities, unique monthly responsibilities, and unpredictable job duties as dictated by the needs of the operation. The primary objectives for the Executive Director is to maintain the success of the organization, continue to develop the non-profit organization, and explore expansion options. The ideal candidate is passionate about supporting families with young children, wants to succeed in early childhood education, is accountable to all, strives to make progress, and is a life-long learner.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree plus five years of experience in a director role (M.A. in Early Childhood Education or related field preferred)
  • Possess a valid Director Letter and meet Colorado Large Center Director qualifications
  • Two plus years’ experience directing a high-quality early childhood center
  • Experience with NAEYC Accreditation or Colorado Shines rating process
  • Demonstrated record keeping, budget creation, and financial literacy
  • Successfully led a team of 20+ in management, development, and retention
  • Experience in problem-solving and thoughtful decision making in a high paced environment
  • Experience managing a non-profit organization and working with a Board - preferred
  • Prior teaching experience with children 10 weeks to five years old
  • Detailed understanding of the Creative Curriculum and Teaching Strategies Gold – preferred
  • Intermediate skills in using technology for information and communication purposes – MS Office
  • Successful experience in fundraising and/or grant writing
  • Ability to carry and lift children and other items weighing up to 50 pounds

Early Childhood Teachers

Family Flex is a fun, energetic, and forward-thinking year-round education center serving Denver metro families. Our classrooms implement the Creative Curriculum in our assessment, lesson planning, and learning environment. We are currently seeking positive team players to join our team. Our compensation is above average, and we offer health insurance, paid holidays, and paid time off, which begins to accrue at 60 days. Starting pay depends on level of education and years of experience working with young children (by verified letters). We are located within walking distance of downtown and two blocks from the Broadway bus route.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and write lesson plans in accordance with Teaching Strategies Gold and Creative Curriculum
  • Plan with your co-teacher how to support the individual needs of all children in your care
  • Conduct up to four conferences per year, guided by Teaching Strategies Gold assessment tools
  • Interact with the children to encourage exploration and learning through play
  • Communicate professionally with parents and colleagues
  • Participate in monthly staff meetings and trainings
  • Design an age-appropriate room arrangement to support the goals and developmental level of the children in the classroom
  • Comply with Family Flex standards and policies

REQUIREMENTS:

  • At least two years experience working with young children (infants to five-year-olds)
  • Early Childhood Teacher qualified in accordance with Colorado state regulations
  • Demonstrated leadership and professionalism in the classroom
  • Bachelor’s, Associate’s, or CDA with emphasis in Early Childhood Education or related field
  • Established skills in teamwork and co-teaching
  • Understanding of play-based curriculum and project approach
  • Strong classroom management skills with the ability to respond immediately to emergency situations
  • Success at being an intentional teacher with children
  • Ability to lift and carry children and other items weighing up to 50 pounds
